Windows 7 End of Life

After 10 years, support for Windows 7 has ended on January 14, 2020. We know change can be difficult, so we are here to help you with recommendations for what to do next and to answer questions about end of support.

What does end of support mean?

When Windows 7 ended support on January 14, 2020, your computer will still function but Microsoft will no longer provide the following:

Technical support for any issues, Software updates, Security updates or fixes. (Plus if your using Microsoft Security Essentials for your antivirus...there will be no further updates protecting you from viruses).

While you could continue to use your PC running Windows 7, without continued software and security updates,
it will be at greater risk for viruses and malware.

Also, big companies like Comcast and AT&T will most likely not help you with any issues you may have with internet or email issues because if Microsoft shuts down support, more than likely they will too.

Going forward, the best way for you to stay current & secure is on Windows 10. It is been available since July 29, 2015 and it's on it's 11th version. And it keeps getting better and better!  All the while it is possible to install Windows 10 on your older device. Just call us or stop by with your computer for a FREE evaluation.

Here's the bad news....While it is possible to upgrade from Windows 7 to 10, it's not always recommended,  Since it is built on a different platform, some users have experienced issues with their computers software programs that are currently installed.  We can offer the upgrade option for 7 or 8 to 10 if we feel your computer can handle it.  However, if we feel it won't work...we may need to install Windows 10 from scratch.
If that's our only option...we can make a list all your programs, back up your data, then erase the hard drive completely and install Windows 10 from scratch.  We then can restore the data and reinstall many of your programs.

Here's the good news.....You can upgrade to Windows 10 as long as you have a valid Windows 7 or 8 license on your computer.

About your computer:
If your computer came with Windows 7, most likely it's compatible with Windows 10.   (however, it must meet hardware requirements...which most of them do).
In our professional opinion if you're generally happy with the performance of your computer, getting Windows 10 on it will only make it work better... at a fraction of the cost of buying a new computer.

Here's what to expect if we perform this service for you:

-Your computer will have Windows 10 Home or Pro (this is based on what version you have currently)

-You will have a new free antivirus from Microsoft.    "Windows Defender"   (if you decide to install something else, this program will automatically disable)

-Your data will be in the same folders that they were in originally.  (documents to documents, pictures to pictures, etc.)

-We will install VLC Player.  (Most popular multimedia player)

-If you have Microsoft Office, we should be able to reinstall it for you providing it's 2007 or newer.  ( Newer Office products like 2013 and above require Microsoft login)

-We can save and restore your bookmarks and favorites if desired.

-We can install free programs like Skype, iTunes, Adobe Reader, Google Chrome, Firefox and others.

-You may need to reinstall your printer software when you get home. (We can download the newest software for you, or if you'd like; set up an remote session with us!)

- You will need to reconnect to your WiFi when you get home.

- You will need to login to your websites. (IE: Banking, Facebook and others as we cannot preserve this data)
- You must let us know what programs are most important, so that we can verify that they are compatible with Windows 10.    ( IE: Quickbooks, Quicken, TurboTax.  Microsoft Outlook users...we recommend 2013 or newer.)

Windows 11

-We're not huge fans of it (not yet anyway)  The look and feel is pretty different from Windows 10.

-Windows 11 will be pre-installed on pretty much any new computer you buy today at the big box stores.

-If you've inadvertently installed Windows 11 upgrade on your computer, you probably only have about 30 days to revert back to 10.

-One thing we don't like is that Microsoft pretty much forces you to tie your Microsoft account to it. Some people don't even have a Microsoft account so if you don't...you're basically forced to create one.
-It's actually a little more complicated to use than Windows 7 & 10

"Have been going here for several years now. They never fail to impress me. Their techs know what they're doing and now they even send you a text message when your computer is done. Fair prices and quick service."
